The subscriber base is continuously expanding in the state where 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh are added each year, according to the TRAI. Internet subscribers in Kashmir lose an estimated Rs 2.5 crore every day the authorities snap the connectivity. Jammu and Kashmir has around 12 million subscribers, of which seven million are in Kashmir division that includes Kargil and Leh districts, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) figures. Mobile internet service is often blocked in Kashmir Valley which is estimated to have around 6.5 lakh subscribers across its 10 districts. On a safe estimate, an average subscriber uses 1 GB of data a day (this assumption is based on the fact that some use 2 GB per day packs while others don’t avail internet data services). The cost of an average data plan is Rs 399 for 90 days, which means one GB data costs

 The University of Kashmir on Monday announced the postponement of PG Entrance Tests scheduled on August 26, sources said. In a notification issued today, Dir Admissions & Competitive Examinations, Prof Irshad A Nawchoo said that the postponed tests will be held on September 4. The time and venue of the tests will remain the same though, as per the notification. Sources said that step has been taken in view of the shutdown call of joint resistance leadership (JRL). JRL has called for a two day shutdown on August 26 and 27 in view of the hearing on a plea seeking scrapping of Article 35-A of the constitution in the Supreme Court of India. The Article gives special privileges to the citizens of Jammu Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir government has declared seven-day mourning and closure of State-run offices, educational institutions, boards and corporations tomorrow as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee. An order issued here said that the tricolour and the state flag shall fly at half mast. “The J&K government offices/boards/corporations and educational institutions shall remain closed on 17th August, 2018 in memory of (the) departed soul,” said the order
